How do poets speak truth to power? How can we reimagine who and where we are? How do we rebuild our sense of self through the medium of poetry in post-Apartheid South Africa? And what is it about poetry that makes it such a powerful vehicle for socio-cultural transformation? Outspoken explores the spoken word poetry scene in Cape Town

«South African Poet Koleka Putuma’s Gets a Rousing Video» Okayafrica

«Outspoken» expresa la energía y diversidad de la poesía sudafricana del cabo del sur, con contenido profundo, transgresor, político, humano, hermoso, libre. El poder de reunir diversos cuerpos en un mismo espacio para vivir la poesía. La cohesión social que los actos poéticos multilingües pueden contribuir a nutrir. Desde el inicio de la pandemia, las sesiones de Inzync ya no existen. Esta película se ha convertido ahora también en un pieza documental de la exuberancia pre-pandémica de la escena de la poesía en vivo en Sudáfrica.

«Outspoken» expresses the energy and diversity of South African poetry from the southern cape, with deep, transgressive, beautiful, free, political content, after a year of filming in different poetry spaces, long periods of editing, a strong translation exercise of the various languages alive in South Africa. The power of gathering diverse bodies in the same space to experience poetry. The social cohesion that multilingual poetry events can help to nourish. Since the onset of the pandemic, the Inzync Sessions no longer exist. This film has now also become a timepiece of the pre-pandemic exuberance of the live poetry scene in South Africa.
