Intensive workshop of pinhole photography
Una cámara estenopeica es una cámara sin lente que consiste en una caja sellada a la luz (puede ser construida con material reciclado como papel, cajas de cartón, cajas de lata, etc), con un pequeñísimo agujero (estenopo) y un material fotosensible.
A pinhole camera is a camera without lens; it is made with a light sealed box (it can be built with recycled material as paperboard, tin boxes, etc), with a very small hole (pinhole), and a photosensitive material inside it.
Con ella se pueden captar imágenes de tu entorno, de tu vida, de tus seres queridos, de lo que imagines…
En este taller aprenderás a construir una cámara estenopeica, a exponer correctamente las imágenes que deseas capturar y a revelarlas hasta verlas impresas mágicamente en un papel fotosensible.
With the pinhole cameras that we will build, it will be possible to capture images of your environment, your life, your loved ones, or what ever you can imagine…
In this workshop you will learn to build a pinhole camera with recycled materials, to expose the images, you want to capture, correctly and to develop them until you will be able see them in a photosensitive material (photographic paper).
1era Semana
Clase 1 (1 hora)
Introducción a la fotografía estenopeinca, presentación a cerca de la cámara oscura, ejemplos de imágenes obtenidas con cámaras oscuras.
Revisión de obras de Carlos Jurado y la película sobre la cámara de cartón.
Introducción a los materiales
Clase 2 (2 horas)
Cámara con materiales encontrados, cajas de lata.
Construcción cámaras con cajas de lata y primeras pruebas de toma de fotografías. Realizamos juntos una fotografía de grupo y la revelamos.
2da Semana
Clase 3 (2 horas)
Realización de fotografías con la primera cámara en las locaciones que requiera el proyecto.
Clase 4 (2 horas)
Revelado de las fotografías y realización de las siguientes tomas.
Clase 5 (2 horas)
Revelado de fotografías.
Salida de campo para tomas fotográficas con las 3 cámaras.
3era Semana
Clase 6 (2 horas)
Finalización de serie forográfica.
Clase 7 (2 horas)
Finalización de serie fotográfica.
Clase 8 (2 horas)
Finalización de serie fotográfica.
Clase 9 (2 horas)
Construcción de cámaras a partir de papel cartón.
Se construirán 3 cámaras de diferentes formatos.
Se discutirá el tema de la serie fotográfica a realizar.
Finalización de serie fotográfica y exposición en el taller.

Guía este taller María Fernanda García, en el taller Jiráfica que queda en la Benigno Malo 16-80 y Muñoz Vernaza en Cuenca, Ecuador.
La duración del curso será de 15 días encontrándonos tres días a la semana. Los horarios se determinarán en conjunto con los participantes.
La inversión es de 80 dólares por participante, este costo incluye todos los materiales y tus fotografías impresas en papel fotográfico.

1st week:
Class 1: Introduction to pinhole photography, presentation about the first dark cameras, examples of photographs taken with dark cameras. We will review the work of Carlos Jurado and we will see his movie, “the carton camera”.
Introduction to the materials and to the darkroom instruments and chemicals.
Class 2: The camera built with tin boxes.
Building the cameras with used tins and making the first proofs with them.
Class 3: We will build our first camera with carton in group and then take a group picture to then develop it, trying the chemicals for the first time.
According to our time, we will start building our personal cameras.
2nd week
Class 4: On the third week we will build or continuing building our own personal cameras with carton.
We will build 3 cameras of different formats.
We will discuss about the series that each student will make.
Class 5
Making the first images with our first pinhole camera in the different locations that our series requires.
Field trip to take pictures with the three cameras.
Class 6
Developing the photographs and taking the next ones with our pinhole cameras.
3rd week
Class 7
Developing the photographs of our series and taking the next ones.
Class 8
Finalizing our photographic series.
Class 9
Finalizing our series and exhibiting it at the space where the workshop will take place.
Information, schedule and cost of the workshop:
The person teaching this workshop will be María Fernanda García, at the Jiráfica studio that is located in Benigno Malo 16-80 and Muñoz Vernaza, Cuenca, Ecuador.
Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays form 3 to 5 pm.
The cost is 80 dollars per person, this includes all the materials including your photographic paper.
If you assist to the workshops of Stop Motion and Illustration you will receive a 20% discount.
